Event: Spontaneous shows on outdoor ice rinks in Montreal

To see the capsule aired on CTV News about the event, click here. Le Patin Libre is a young troop full of energy and creativity. There's no way we will wait for contracts to show what we create! In March 2007, the group just developped a new concept of improvised jazz skating and a number illustrating their artistic manifesto. Julien, Liam and Alex decide to present spontaneously and without warning their creations on outdoor ice rinks. A portable sound sytem ade with car batteries and a guitar amp is put together in one night. The show is announced in advance... but not its location... to keep the surprise effect. 10 hours before the show, this web site announces the location of the event: Lafontaine Park, on the Plateau Mont-Royal, in the heart of the metropolis. The web site fills up and a few persons come to see us. An half-melted ice make things complicated but everybody has loads of fun and the show is remarked by a pleased little crowd. CTV, one of the major TV channels of Montreal, send a camera on the site. You can see here the capsule about the event aired at the news of the same night. After the show, the little team decides suddently to repeat the operation on a better ice rink (we love those how efficient but how unaccessible refrigerated surfaces). Beaver Lake, on Mount Royal, knows nothing about the little storm in preparation. Some spectactors present at the now very liquid Lafontaine Park decide to follow the troop to miss nothing! On the rink that Le Patin Libre inaugurated in a little bit more official context a few months before, about 300 montrealers skate in the sun. The organisation of the surprise is a bit more delicate but mastered cleverly by the team. In 30 seconds, a small part of the rink is secured with some cones. Now, a few hundreds people can enjoy one of the most dynamic, strange and original ice show ever presented! 6 minutes of entertaining craze. The comments are all the same: it was awesome, they should bring you here more often! For the launch of its new artistic manifesto , Le Patin Libre lived the most exciting day of its existence. The troop just discovered that no obstacle can stop it from sharing its energy! And its name is justified in a new way... Sylvain Bouillère, one of our skater friends, joined us for the first time. We made many new friends that will keep following the progress of the troop... We tell all of you... ...see you soon! PS: A big thank you to the young security personel of the Beaver Lake ice rink. Their initiative and understanding of the joyfullness of our presence helped the event to be a success. |
